There are a few important issues that keep Sword and Shield from being the very best but these games are undeniably fun and make many convenient gameplay changes that we've been crying out for. Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Galar region, inspired by the United Kingdom, is charming and generally well-liked, and its wild areas added a much-requested open-world feature to the series. They certainly had the most tumultuous pre-launch period of any of the Pokémon games when it emerged that Game Freak would not be including every single Pokémon across the eight generations' National Pokédex and would instead limit the number to around 400 in a Regional Dex.ĭespite the furor, the eighth generation seemed to weather the storm and both titles have gone on to have great critical and commercial success.
